House Committee: ‘TSA Is Toxic & Abysmal’

House Committee: ‘TSA Is Toxic & Abysmal’

Will Trump bring reform to the agency?

Government Reform shows that no matter how much we hate the TSA, the employees of the agency may loathe it even more. The report describes the TSA as a “toxic” and “abysmal” workplace environment where the culture allows the misconduct of senior officials to go unpunished and where whistleblowers are faced with either retaliation or involuntarily reassignment to other locations.

“Quiet Skies”? Boston Globe Exposé Reveals TSA Is Secretly Surveilling Thousands of U.S. Travelers
A Boston Globe investigation has revealed the existence of a domestic surveillance program run by the Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, which has been shadowing U.S. citizens on planes and in airports since 2012. Under the program, called “Quiet Skies,” federal air marshals collect information about U.S. travelers, including common behavior like using the bathroom repeatedly, sleeping on flights or sweating heavily. In the wake of the Globe investigation, TSA officials have bowed to pressure from Congress and plan to meet with the House and Senate Homeland Security Committees. We speak with Jana Winter, the Boston Globe Spotlight fellow who broke the story. Her investigation is headlined “Welcome to the Quiet Skies.” SEE TITLE LINK FOR DEMOCRACY NOW ARTICLE.

Morrissey accosted by TSA in San Francisco terminal.

"Do people have minds?"

Morrissey claims that when he tried to confront the offending security officer, he was repeatedly told, “That’s just your opinion.”

“Apart from ‘that’s just your opinion,’ he would not comment, even though, since the penis and testicles were mine and no one else’s, then my opinion must surely have some meaning,” Morrissey protested.

(At least it is great to hear that he is up and about, despite cancer! Now, I am eager to hear this incident transformed into some new song by the INDIE crooner. Or, what would be even better would be if he made a whole album about the National Insecurity State, just as Neil Young has done re: Monsanto and GMO's).

Oh - hey:

In a statement, TSA spokesman Mike England denied the officer did anything wrong.

“TSA takes all allegations of misconduct seriously and strives to treat every passenger with dignity and respect,” England said. “Upon review of closed-circuit TV footage, TSA determined that the supervised officer followed standard operating procedures in the screening of this individual.”

"I'm cold." - Snowden, hopefully in Iceland...

Thank Snowden for taking the plunge!

btw - You notice that these famous internet whistleblowers like to find refuge with countries where there are lots of sardines? Me too! Snowden is in Hong Kong, but he really wants to be in ICELAND. And that WikiLeaks guy - Julian Assange - he tried Sweden and then sought asylum through ECUADOR! I'm telling you... these guys are so SMART and so GOOD because they like to eat lots of healthy fish! And that's why Northern Europe is so progressive - just like the Northwest USA - and the Northeast USA. And that's why everyone is fighting in the Middle East. Fish oil! Not crude oil! Please, support products from Ecuador and Iceland, like sardines. You'll grow a big head! Just like the alien overlords!

It's a LIBERTARIAN thing...
[Salon.com] Doom because apparently the only people willing to stand up for freedom are those that have a worldview so completely fucked that they would ultimately make things worse. Snowden believed the capitalist fairy tale that Hong Kong is a near utopia, and then failed to note that it has an extradition agreement with the US; it will be interesting to see how that turns out for him. He also employs that typically Randian definition of "self-interest" which is supposed to be free of empathy (if we look to Rand herself to define it) yet seems to mean exactly empathy the way it is employed by most libertarians. He blames the government solely for the violations of our privacy and yet fails to note that the work is being carried out by private subcontractors like the one he works for, and apparently he has no problem with the private corporations that collected the information in the first place. If only he had included a 70-page speech on the ultimate triumph of the "ideal man". In short, if this guy represents the heroes that have come to save us, we will be descending into a libertarian utopia that will make Orwell's 1984 look merciful. Still, its nice that someone did something. - Edward Snowden: A libertarian hero - (credits to here: http://so-very-doomed.livejournal.com/857876.html ) - (where have you heard that before... hmmm??? - - - Hey! They're saying, "Randian," now! I might have started that term!! I am very important!)

- btw - Hong Kong has some exceptions in its extraditions policy vis-a-vis USA, and I believe Snowden might have been going for such. I don't think this wasn't thought out ahead of time, yo. He might only be passing through Hong Kong. Maybe getting a pay-off or something. From the aliens...

Homeland Security Concedes Airport Body Scanner ‘Vulnerabilities’ - Federal investigators “identified vulnerabilities in the screening process” at domestic airports using so-called “full body scanners,” according to a classified internal Department of Homeland Security report. DHS has spent nearly $90 million replacing traditional magnetometers with controversial X-ray body scanning machines that are intended to detect items that could be missed by a metal detector. Exactly how bad the body scanners are is not being divulged publicly, but the Inspector General report made eight separate recommendations on...

Did you know that a facilitating agent assisted "Underwear Bomber" #1, but was allowed to disappear into obscurity? Did you know that "Underwear Bomber" #2 was evidently a CIA co-operative, and he was allowed to disappear into obscurity? Do you know that neither actually invoked terrorism by blowing up a plane, which #1 had every ability to do? And the "shoe-bomber" was a klutz? Do you know that, at the very LEAST, entrapment was used by the FBI to entice the Cleveland, (or Portland), "bridge-bombers" to create their scare? And the corporate news media eats it all up? Family says TSA treated girl 'no better than if she had been a terrorist'

TSA defends patting down hysterical 4-year-old who had just learned about ‘stranger danger’ in school
WICHITA, Kan. — The grandmother of a 4-year-old girl who became hysterical during a security screening at a Kansas airport said Wednesday that the child was forced to undergo a pat-down after hugging her, with security agents yelling and calling the crying girl an uncooperative suspect. The incident has been garnering increasing media and online attention since the child's mother, Michelle Brademeyer of Montana, detailed the ordeal in a public Facebook post last week. The Transportation Security Administration is defending its...

Former head says TSA is 'national embarrassment':

(NaturalNews) When former president George W. Bush signed into law the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (ATSA) following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which established the existence of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), America was told flying would become a safer and more secure experience for everyone. But more than a decade later, the TSA has shown itself to be an abusive and ineffective "national embarrassment," to quote the words of former TSA head Kip Hawley, who says the agency is in desperate need of reform. - http://www.naturalnews.com/035667_TSA_embarrassment_national_security.html
